About the Programme

Transnet is offering young South Africans the opportunity to join its Sector-Specific Training Programme for the 2025/2026 period.

This structured 12-month programme is designed to create a pipeline of skilled individuals for key operational roles within Transnet Port Terminals (TPT). Participants will receive on-the-job training and hands-on experience in port operations — aligned with their academic qualifications and career interests.


What You’ll Do

Participants will be exposed to real operations and responsibilities, including:

  • Performing daily operational tasks related to cargo handling
  • Monitoring and recording equipment performance and defects
  • Operating safety equipment and following safety procedures
  • Using Transnet’s Navis Terminal Operating System for daily work instructions
  • Maintaining accurate logbooks and operational reports
  • Reporting incidents, accidents, and operational challenges

This programme offers a chance to gain valuable experience while working in one of South Africa’s most critical logistics sectors.


Minimum Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Have a Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • (Advantageous) Hold a TVET N6 qualification in Logistics or Transport
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be eager to learn and develop technical and operational skills

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of terminal safety procedures and operations
  • Understanding of different cargo types and equipment
  • Strong communication and planning skills
  • Good time management and problem-solving ability
  • Hand-eye coordination and sound judgment
  • Computer literacy
