About the Programme
Rand Water, one of Africa’s leading water utilities, is inviting unemployed South African youth to apply for the Experiential Training Programme 2025/2027.
This initiative gives students who have completed the theoretical component of their National Diplomas the chance to gain practical, hands-on experience in a real working environment. The programme runs for 15 months and aims to help participants complete their qualification requirements while gaining valuable skills in the science and environmental sectors.
Learners will be based at Rand Water’s Scientific Services Division in Vereeniging, where they will be exposed to laboratory analysis, water quality monitoring, and environmental management under professional supervision.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:
- Have a Matric / Grade 12 certificate
- Have completed two years of theoretical training towards a National Diploma in:
- Biotechnology
- Microbiology
- Environmental Sciences
- Analytical Chemistry
- Be a South African citizen with a valid ID
- Be under 35 years old
- Require workplace experience to complete their National Diploma
- Have not previously participated in another experiential learning programme

Key Responsibilities
During the training period, participants will:
- Apply the basic principles of ISO 17025 in a laboratory environment
- Collect and test water samples for quality analysis
- Prepare media, reagents, and chemical solutions
- Perform analytical testing and record results
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure accurate calibration
- Follow strict Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards
- Support daily lab operations and ensure good housekeeping
