Lancet Laboratories Phlebotomy Learnership 2025 / 2026 – Become a Student Technician

Lancet Laboratories is opening applications for their Student Phlebotomy Technician Learnership Programme 2025 / 2026. This is a great opportunity for young South Africans who want to build a career in healthcare and medical diagnostics.

Through this 24-month learnership, learners will gain the skills needed to qualify as Phlebotomy Technicians – professionals who collect blood and specimens for testing, playing a key role in patient care and accurate medical results.


About the Programme

The learnership combines theoretical training and practical workplace experience. After completing the 2-year programme and passing the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) board exam, learners will be eligible to register as qualified Phlebotomy Technicians.

This qualification opens career opportunities in:

  • Pathology laboratories
  • Clinics and hospitals
  • Blood donation organisations

Minimum Requirements

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • English (Home Language/First Additional): Level 4 (50%–59%)
  • Life Sciences: Level 4 (50%–59%)
  • Mathematics: Level 3 (40%–49%) OR Maths Literacy: Level 4 (50%–59%)
  • Work Experience: 0–1 year (advantageous)
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures (advantageous)

What You’ll Do in the Programme

  • Attend classroom lectures, practical sessions, and complete assignments
  • Prepare for and write the HPCSA board exam
  • Collect venous and capillary blood samples and other specimens
  • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping protocols
  • Deliver professional and compassionate service to patients

  • Attention to detail and professionalism
  • Ability to stay calm with nervous patients
  • Strong admin and problem-solving skills
  • Empathy, patience, and confidentiality
  • Willingness to work a 42.5-hour week

Learners must arrange their own accommodation, transport, and meals. Shortlisted candidates will complete a pre-assessment.


Stipend

A monthly stipend will be provided to support learners during the programme.
