The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is recruiting Examination Assistants (EAs) and Quality Assurers (QAs) for the upcoming exam season. There are 294 EA posts and 951 QA posts available.
This is a great opportunity for students and unemployed graduates to earn money, gain work experience, and play a key role in keeping exams fair and accurate.
Who Can Apply?
You can apply if you:
- Have a Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate, or NSC Vocational.
- Are either:
- A registered student at a tertiary institution, OR
- An unemployed graduate, OR
- An unemployed individual with at least one tertiary qualification.
- Passed Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy in Grade 12.
- (Advantage) Are in your second year or higher at a tertiary institution.
- Can work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
If you’ve worked as an Exam Assistant or Quality Assurer before, add that to your application.
What You’ll Do
Examination Assistants (based at District & Head Offices):
- Receive, check, and scan exam scripts daily.
- Pack scripts for marking and check marksheets.
- Report and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare files and dispatch scripts to marking centres.
- Archive and index scripts after marking.
Quality Assurers (based at Marking Centres):
- Receive and distribute scripts to marking teams.
- Confirm correct numbers of scripts and marksheets.
- Ensure all questions are marked and totals are accurate.
- Work with marking teams to resolve issues.
- Reconcile and arrange scripts per subject for archiving.

Do not apply if you:
- Are writing the NSC/Senior Certificate/AET Exams in 2025.
- Have taken the Voluntary Severance Package (VSP).
