City of Johannesburg EPWP General Workers Programme 2025

The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Bus Services (Metrobus) is inviting unemployed residents of Johannesburg to apply for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) General Workers Programme 2025.

This 12-month opportunity is aimed at creating temporary work and skills development for local residents while helping Metrobus deliver essential services across the city.


About the Programme

  • Duration: 12 months (1 year)
  • Designation: EPWP General Workers (x135 positions available)
  • Location: Various Metrobus depots and outlets across Johannesburg
  • Purpose: To provide temporary employment opportunities for unemployed residents while supporting city operations.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have at least Grade 10 or NCV Level 4
  • Be 18 to 50 years old
  • Be a South African citizen living in the City of Johannesburg (proof of address required)
  • Be currently unemployed

Employment Equity

Preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants across all designated groups, including people with disabilities (PWDs). Metrobus reserves the right to consider Employment Equity and Affirmative Action in the selection process.


How to Apply

There are two ways to apply for the Metrobus EPWP General Worker vacancies:

Option 1: Online Application

  • Visit the Department of Labour website: www.labour.gov.za
  • Click on the ESSA option
  • Register under Individual Registration for Employment
  • Complete and submit your application

Option 2: Labour Centre Application

  • Go to your nearest Department of Labour Centre
  • Ask for assistance with the EPWP General Workers application
  • Complete the application on-site
