About the Bursary
Cenfri (Centre for Financial Regulation and Inclusion) is calling on postgraduate students who are passionate about research, economics, and development in Africa to apply for their 2026 Bursary Programme.
The programme is designed to support future South African researchers who want to use their skills to drive real-world economic and social change.
What the Bursary Offers
Successful candidates will receive:
- Full financial support for tuition and a monthly stipend
- A dedicated mentor to guide you throughout the year
- At least six weeks of paid internship at Cenfri’s offices in Durbanville (plus remote work options)
- A potential full-time job offer after graduation and successful completion of the programme
This is an excellent opportunity to gain academic and workplace experience while making a meaningful contribution to inclusive economic growth in Africa.
Who Should Apply
You should apply if you:
- Are on track to enter your final year or one-year Master’s programme in Economics or a related field
- Have a minimum GPA of 65% or higher in your most recent academic year
- Are passionate about research, data, and development in Africa
- Have strong writing, analytical, and presentation skills
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Have advanced English communication skills
- Are proficient in MS Office (knowledge of Stata and data analysis is an advantage)
Eligibility
This Diversity Bursary is open only to Employment Equity candidates who can prove financial need and are South African citizens.
Students based in Cape Town are preferred to fully benefit from the mentorship and internship experience.
Shortlisted candidates will take part in:
- A panel interview
- Technical ability assessments
- Psychometric evaluations
