Anglo American, one of the world’s leading mining companies, is offering Engineering Learnership opportunities through its Kumba Iron Ore division. This programme gives young South Africans the chance to gain technical skills, practical work experience, and a pathway into a long-term career in mining and engineering.

What the Programme Offers
The Kumba Iron Ore Learnership Programme runs for 36 to 39 months and includes both classroom learning and hands-on training at the company’s Kolomela and Sishen mines.
During this time, you’ll work alongside qualified professionals, gain valuable industry experience, and work toward a recognised qualification that can open doors to future opportunities within Anglo American.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify, you must:
- Be a South African citizen with a valid ID.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Hold a Driver’s License.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Provide proof of residence.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment (RFA).
Academic Requirements
To apply for this learnership, you’ll need Grade 12 or an N2 qualification with the following subjects, depending on your chosen trade:
- Electrical / Millwright / Auto Electrician: Minimum of 40% in Mathematics and 40% in Physical Science, plus N2 Maths and N2 Science.
- Fitter / Diesel Mechanic: Minimum of 40% in Mathematics and 40% in Physical Science, plus N2 Maths and N2 Science.
- Boilermaker / Plater Welder: Minimum of 40% in Mathematics, 40% in Physical Science, and 40% in Engineering Drawing, plus N2 Maths, N2 Science, and N2 Engineering Drawing.
- Electrical / Millwright / Auto Electrician: Minimum of 40% in Mathematics, 40% in Physical Science, and 40% in Structural Drawing, plus N2 Maths, N2 Science, and N2 Structural Drawing.
